SAFARI EXTENSIONS
Victoria Falls, Southern Africa's Unique Attraction
The Victoria Falls constitutes one of the most spectacular
natural wonders of the world. The Local people call it "Mosi-oa-Tunya"
-- the smoke that thunders and the Victoria Falls are remarkable.
There is a magic about them manifested in the towering column
of spray known as the Victoria falls when the river is high, the
thunder of the falling water, the terrifying abyss and tranquil
lagoons upstream in which hippo and deadly crocodiles lurk. The
Victoria falls is 1 708 meters wide, making it the largest curtain
of water in the world. The Victoria falls drops between 90m and
107m into the Zambezi Gorge and an average of 550,000 cubic metres
of water plummet over the edge every minute.

Remarkably preserved in its natural state, Victoria
falls inspires visitors as much today as it did David Livingstone
in the 1860's. The Victoria falls and the surrounding area have
been declared National Parks and a World Heritage Site, thus preserving
the area from excessive commercialisation. The Victoria Falls
are spectacular throughout the year, but February onwards, after
the rain season, has the heaviest flow and volume of spray. A
number of activities can be undertaken by the Victoria Falls.
The 'Flight of Angels' provides a fabulous vista of the Victoria
falls, the upstream river and its many islands and for the more
adventurous there is microlighting with stunning views of the
Victoria Falls. Rafting the wild rapids below the Victoria Falls
is a very popular adventure. Visitors of the Victoria falls can
also kayak, canoe, fish, go on guided walking safaris, ride on
horseback and lunch on Livingstone's Island.
TWO NIGHTS AT TONGABEZI LODGE, VICTORIA FALLS,
ZAMBIA
Departure in the morning on Kenya Airways to Lusaka
where you will catch a connecting flight to the town of Livingstone
at Victoria Falls. Your hotel with its huge, very private rooms,
partially open to the stars and perched on the bank of the great
Zambezi River, is a wonderful base from which to visit everything
of interest here. Next morning you can experience the thrill of
white-water rafting through the rapids in the Zambezi Gorge with
the cliffs towering above you. Climb back up exhausted and exhilarated
and then (perhaps) leap off those same cliffs with a bungee rope
attached to your ankles? The falls can also be viewed from the air,
circling overhead through the mist and spray in a light aircraft.
TWO NIGHTS AT NGORONGORO CRATER LODGE, TANZANIA
The huge and famous caldera of Ngorongoro is ten miles
across and sits perched amongst other ancient volcanoes with its
2000 foot high walls protecting a hidden treasure of wildlife. This
is one of the last strongholds of black rhino. Perched on the edge
of the famous Crater at the eastern edge of the Serengeti, is Ngorongoro
Crater Lodge, without doubt one of the most architecturally spectacular
lodges in Africa. The Crater considered the one of the natural Wonders
of the World, is a World Heritage Site.
TWO NIGHTS AT MNEMBA ISLAND LODGE, PEMBA ISLAND TANZANIA
Situated on an intimate private island off the northeastern
trip of Zanzibar, surrounded by an atoll of coral reefs within a
amrine reserve, Mnemba Island Lodge is sheer unpretentious paradise.
Here threatened green turtles find sacntausry in which tolay eggs,
and the diving, snorkeling and fishing is excellent. With its ten
rustic pal frond bandas nestled in a scluded tropical forest surrounded
by a soft white beach, with delicious seafood and warm hospitality,
it is no surprise that Mnemba is commonly recognized as one of the
most romantic island destinations in the world.
